About

Photo hub Group is a collective of photographers working towards the second Brighton Photo Fringe Hastings biennale in 2012 and supported by funding from the Arts Council England. Coordinated by Andrew Moran and Grace Lau, the Phg’s aims are to:

  • Project a strong photography profile in the South East and forging a link from Brighton’s photography activities to Folkestone and further. With the new Jerwood opening shortly, there will be worldwide focus on Hastings’ art scene and the opportunity to raise public appreciation of contemporary photography must not be missed.
  • Provide opportunities and a platform for photographers, particularly young emerging photographers, to showcase their work and to encourage personal confidence and professional experience through specialised mentoring sessions, workshops, competitions, portfolio reviews, etc.
  • Develop constructive collaborations with Brighton Photo Fringe, SoCo Artists, Hastings Council (Education) and Coastal Currents, to  highlight the creative force of photography.
  • Explore innovative venues around Hastings to showcase works, such as bus stops (Louise Kenward’s work for the 2010 Photo Fringe biennale); cafes, shops; also at the Fishermens Museum and the Blue Reef Aquarium.
  • Encourage the community to participate through open competitions such as My Stade (2010) and Stade Stories (2011) funded by Heritage Lottery.

Prof Val Williams, Director of Photography and the Archive Research Centre in the University of the Arts London, says

“There is a wealth of photographic talent and expertise in Hastings, and the Brighton Photo Fringe is an ideal way to expose this work to a wider public.”
